A new eco-friendly printing technology by Totem.com.pl
We are excited to introduce our new GREEN BOOK technology, setting new standards in book production by combining the highest product quality with care for the environment. This is our response to the growing expectations of readers and publishers increasingly seeking planet-friendly products.
GREEN BOOK is an eco-friendly solution offering numerous tangible benefits to Totem’s clients. The key features of this technology include:
GREEN BOOK brings a number of tangible benefits to Totem’s print customers. The most important of these are:
1. Superior print quality: 1200 dpi resolution ensures clear and vivid reproduction of text and graphics.
2. Eco-friendly raw materials: FSC certified papers and recycled materials are used in production, including our specially optimized Totem Velvet Ivory wood-based paper with a pleasant cream tone, perfect for digital printing.
3. Neutralising the CO2 impact on the environment: the innovative printing systems reduce the carbon footprint, moreover – thanks to ClimateCalc calculations – it is possible to precisely determine the carbon footprint of the production process of a specific book and then neutralise its environmental impact by purchasing carbon credits from certified suppliers. The book can thus be labelled with the ‘CO2 neutralised’ logo.
4. Short lead times.
5. Flexible print runs: from a few hundred to several thousand copies.
6. Competitive prices: optimisation of the production process results in attractive prices, especially for small and medium-sized print runs.
At the heart of GREEN BOOK are the latest-generation TruePress Jet520HD Mono systems from the Japanese company Screen, using SU inks. Totem is the first printing house in Europe to install these systems. Key features of this advanced technology include:
1. Innovative high-density Screen SU inks: designed for uncoated papers, they provide deep blacks without bleed-through, crucial for book texts.
2. High print resolution (1200 dpi): ensuring sharp fonts and precise image reproduction.
3. Near-infrared (NIR) drying module: efficient drying with low energy consumption, eliminating paper curling issues.
4. Real-time quality control: detecting and correcting print defects such as missing jets during production.
To fully grasp the revolutionary nature of GREEN BOOK, here’s a comparison with traditional offset printing:
1. Waste reduction: GREEN BOOK eliminates the need for printing plates, thus avoiding the waste associated with their production and disposal.
2. Eco-friendly inks: utilizes water-based inks, unlike offset printing, which relies on inks and dampening solutions containing harmful substances.
3. Lower CO2 emissions: optimized production significantly reduces the carbon footprint compared to the high CO2 emissions generated by offset printing preparation and operation.
4. Water conservation: digital printing with Screen TruePress systems requires almost no water, in contrast to the large amounts required for offset printing processes.
5. Minimized raw material usage: precise process control eliminates start-up waste and excess production, unlike offset printing, which generates significant paper waste during machine start-up and color calibration.
6. Energy efficiency: modern TruePress systems consume less energy compared to energy-intensive offset machines.
